What is the tinplate

Tinplate, more commonly known as "tin", belongs to the category of coated steel products and consists of a thin sheet of steel covered with a tin layer. The first material allows the manufacture of shaped and resistant products, while the second is able to preserve the organoleptic characteristics of the substances. Tinplate, therefore, is a material with a wide range of applications, especially in the areas of food preservation and packaging.

The history of tinplate

Tinplate begins to be processed between the end of 1200 and the beginning of 1300 in Wunsiedel, Germany, and is established on the market as a packaging material for food preservation between 1700 and 800. Since then, the spread of canned food, of canned beverages and chemicals is increasingly affecting the world. 

It is said that the peculiarities of the box were particularly appreciated on the battlefields, where it was considered an irreplaceable and safe tool for provisioning.

This type of material can be considered environmentally friendly, as after a first use it can be processed again to make other types of packaging. An operation that can be repeated endlessly, thus avoiding massive consumption and damage to the ecosystem.
